“Why does God permit his people to endure such persecution?

1. It acts as a sieve to sift the church of its hypocrites.

2. It reveals the reality of our conversion experiences.

3. It also does us good, for painful as our persecutions are, they drive us to prayer.

4. Again, we must be persecuted, for the life of the church is the life of Christ drawn out in his people.

5. And once more, persecution makes us fit for the life to come, since it builds in us holy character.”
