Score!

I’ve read Calvin’s commentaries online for years.  Sometimes I print off sections if I need a large portion to prepare for teaching.  I could never stomach paying the $120 to CBD to get the fancy-pants complete hardbound set.  About six years ago, I found one of these paperback volumes at a book clearance place on the “as is” table for $1.40!  It was Calvin on Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians and Colossians.  Of course, I snapped it up.  But it’s been the only bound copy of his commentaries that I’ve owned for years (with the exception of one very old hardcover copy of his comments on the general epistles that reeks so bad it’s kept laced with dryer sheets and in double zip-lock bags to protect the rest of my library.  A story for another post sometime).

Anyway, a few weeks ago I was poking around on my Half.com wishlist when I saw Calvin’s commentary on Romans and Thessalonians  for 75cents!  That came in the mail a few days ago and it was in great shape.  Minimal underlining and margin notes, just as described!  I couldn’t believe it!  These typically go for $20 and up on Amazon and usually don’t fall below $15 on Half.

This morning I figured I’d take a peek and see if there were any others from this paperback series put out by Eerdmans, for that cheap.  Guess what will arrive in a few weeks?  Commentary on the Pastoral Epistles, snagged for, again[!], 75cents!

I’m very thankful for the availability of timeless resources for such affordable prices.  This allows me to get worthwhile material and still be a good steward of the resources God has given me.  Praise the Lord!
