This week’s WPW comes from chapter 12, verse 27 -

The lazy man does not roast his game,

but the diligent man prizes his possessions.

Say what?  I think this passage becomes clear (or at least clearer) when we read it in the old King James:

“27The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.”

So this is a proverb for all those hunters out there.  Don’t go around shooting up those critters with no intention of skinning, prepping, cooking and eating your kill!  OK, its saying more than that.  This proverb compares the wasteful foolishness of the lazy sloth to the conservative wisdom of the ones who is prudent with that which he has been given.  We ought not to be carelessly going about wasting the resources that have been supplied to us.  We need to view each material possession as a gift from the Lord that is precious.  Our “substance” is “precious” not in and of itself, but because of the one who has supplied it.  Don’t waste that which you’ve received.  “Roast” your game.  Use wisely and fully all of which God has given you.
